          On my wallpaper with Sai on it, the blast effects are actually cloud and difference cloud layers, you have to use blending modes the contrast against each other.

          The base color is actually blue, when you layer it to a contrasting and overcontrasting layer, or a layer that has blending that goes against or opposite of the color your primary colors is (red) vs (blue), you get different saturated colors.

          Further adjustsments are of course needed, and at least 6 different cloud layers are applied in succession for the base alone.

          The final product had about 25 of those, each saturated at different levels to make the smoke effect.
